Our Mission

PROVIDING ACCESS, EMPOWERING INDIVIDUALS

Strategic Global Capital is committed to unlocking the potential of finance to create impact – by giving microfinance institutions the opportunity to scale their operations and investors the opportunity to seek competitive, diversified, impactful returns.

Our Story

A TRACK RECORD OF SUCCESS

The founder of Strategic Global Capital was first exposed to microfinance and the microeconomy on a personal trip to Lagos, Nigeria. At that time, the promise of microfinance seemed too good to be true, but the fact that no one had tried to create a secondary market for these investments held his interest and pushed him to go deeper.

It has been a large learning curve, but as serial entrepreneurs and people with entrepreneurial spirits, what continues to motivate our team is the potential of opening up a new financial market that can help entrepreneurs in emerging markets.

First Pilot Purchase Program: CACMU

CREATING A PROOF OF CONCEPT

Since August 2011, we have been purchasing loans from Cooperativa de Ahorro y Credito Mujeres Unidas that have yielded an average 16.9% annualized IRR with no defaults to date. We learned how to navigate the legal and business environment in Ecuador and created the infrastructure to make international investments.

Second Pilot Purchase Program: CEPESIU

REPLICATING OUR EFFORTS

To ensure we could scale and replicate our operations, we began a second pilot purchasing program in November 2011 with el Centro de Promoción y Empleo Para el Sector Informal Urbano. Due to changes in management, we exited this investment before maturity but learned how to better protect ourselves and our investors against default and bankruptcy risks.

Private Placement Investment Offering

TESTING THE DEMAND OF OUR PRODUCT

Before we went forward with building the first exchange to buy and sell microloans, we wanted to ensure investors were interested in this type of investment. This would ensure traction for both sides of our platform. We created and released a private placement investment offering to gauge interest and optimize our internal processes.
